The Sikorsky HH-52 Seaguard (company designation S-62) is an early amphibious helicopter designed and produced by American helicopter manufacturer Sikorsky Aircraft. The HH-52A was the Coast Guard’s first turbine-powered helicopter. It had a rotor diameter of 53 feet, a range of 474 miles and a top speed of 109 mph. It was an extremely flexible rescue aircraft that could fully perform missions with a minimum crew.

On January 9, 1963 the U.S. Coast Guard received the first of 99 Sikorsky S-62’s which were given the designation HH-52A and the name “Seaguard”, a name which never caught on amongst those who flew it. The last HH-52A helicopter was delivered on January 17, 1969.

The S-62 was the first amphibious helicopter built with a flying boat type hull, and was the first turbine powered helicopter in Coast Guard service.

The Sea Guard or Sea Guardian helicopter was created to fill a need for a fully amphibious small helicopter. The design began in 1957 as the S-62A (later designated HH-52A), using the rotor and transmission from the S-55 and a single turbo shaft and fuselage similar to the H-3 (S-61) Sea King.
