The Grik (Ghaarrichk'k) are lizard/avian-like creatures that control a large portion of the Destroyerman series's world. Their main nation is known as Celestial Realm. The Grik are egg-laying species, whose intelligence and self-awareness are directly linked with their age.

The sixth volume in the series follows the growing threat from the "Dominion", a Grik / Japanese superweapon, and the arrival of more ships through the "squall", including a Japanese Kagerō-class destroyer called Hidoiame (which translate as Terrible Rain).

Lieutenant Commander Matthew Reddy, and the crew of USS Walker, have located USS Mahan, and are preparing to take the fight to the Grik. Reddy personally leads the first land assault against the Griks to defend a warrior tribe of Monkey-Cats.

Gricks attack when hungry or threatened. They hunt by holing up near high-traffic areas, using their natural coloration to blend into convenient shadows. When prey (virtually anything that moves) ventures near, they lash out with their tentacles. A grick’s rubbery body seems to shed blows of any kind.

Esshk is First General of all the Grik and later becomes Regent Champion as well. Considered the finest general of all the Grik, he makes his first appearance in Crusade where we learn that he is a nest mate of and favorite of the Celestial Mother.
