Mar 12, 2025 · As far as I know, ships that were modified for Nova Scotia-class had additional scantlings installed so as to increase the section modulus of the hull. If a ship only operates on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence river it can have a section modulus as low as 51%. A Nova Scotia-class laker has a section modulus of 80%.

Jan 3, 2025 · UPDATE 1 p.m. : Marine Traffic weather shows high winds (represented by a range of colorful barbs) on all of the Great Lakes. Ships that are moving on Superior are taking the "Northern Route"and many are anchored/sheltered, from DeTour to Whitefish Point. The same is true on the other lakes.

I learned of her only because she's part of the webcam scene as ships traverse the Muskegon channel. Now a history channel on YouTube has posted a documentary (slightly more than 20 minutes) honoring her efforts in the war and of the concerted effort to save her from being scrapped. She's only one of three such memorials on the Great Lakes.
