The EMD GP20C-ECO is a 2,000-horsepower (1,500 kW) B-B diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD. Although similar to the EMD GP22ECO, the GP20C-ECO follows Canadian Pacific's request for crashworthiness and EPA emission standards with the "C" in the designation denoting crashworthiness of the cab, frame, and fuel tank.

The core unit receives a rail up rebuild, the old 567 or 645 prime mover is removed and a new 8–710G3A (T 0+) prime mover is implanted, the units also receive new computers (EM2000), new cabs and carbodies. This yields a 15+% reduction in fuel usage and brings to locomotive up Tier 0+ standards. These units achieve 2,000 hp.

The EMD GP20 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors' Electro-Motive Division between November 1959 and April 1962. Power was provided by an EMD 16-567D2 16- cylinder turbocharged engine which generated 2,000 horsepower (1,500 kW).

The GP20C-ECO is another variant in EMD's ever-growing ECO repower catalog. The program launched by EMD in 2008. The EMD ECO program has since branched out to other models.

Sep 7, 2022 · When the Union Pacific began to retire their GP20s, they decided to save the first production model GP20, the ex Western Pacific 2001. Realizing its history and importance, they donated the unit to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at Portola, California in April 1985.

Aug 4, 2014 · So far, Canadian Pacific is the only user of this little EMD (well, really Caterpillar now, but what the hell). The GP20C-Eco isn't built as an entirely new locomotive in the traditional sense. They are what's called re-manufactured locos.
