May 6, 2016 · Schmincke has three lines of gouache: academy gouache (student grade), HKS designer’s gouache and the high quality Horadam gouache. The cheap rewets *very* badly and when it does, it is still gritty and hard to manage. The middle one rewets much better and the most expensive rewets very well.
Is it possible to reconstitute dried out Gouache?
Oct 15, 2020 · Gouache tends to dry rather fast in the tube, probably faster than any other paint. I had a similar experience with Maimeri gouache, which I liked very much, but dried too fast for my necessities. I mostly use Talens gouache, they stay fresh much longer, and they work pretty well for my needs (but they are probably less “pure” and less ...
Can you paint gouache over a matte acrylic?
Jan 23, 2022 · My “old” paintings seem in good shape. But, as you know, gouache is rather fragile and should be treated with care (don’t scratch or bend the paper, etc). Thanks for your reply! Yeah I think acrylic gesso might not work, but acryla gouache is a matte velvety surface like traditional gouache, so maybe it’ll work! I will give it a try
Suggestions for best ‘good enough’ gouache?
Dec 2, 2018 · Before, I started playing with gouache I bought a bottle of white and black and then proceeded to go to town in monocolor. I then bought all the other colors they had. I own a complete designers box set of Winsor & Newton (read the whole line of colors) along with some colors long out of production that I still use (why did they dump Cadmium ...
Tempera-esque mixed egg yolk with gouache
Nov 7, 2018 · I tried mixing some egg yolk in with tube gouache for this one. The photo just doesn’t capture the ‘glow’ of this medium. Not sure if it has the permanence of real tempera, but as I said, it has a depth of contrast, a glow, that is more than gouache alone. C&C always welcome. It is done on Clayboard, 7″ x 5″.

Sep 20, 2020 · I love gouache, and also am trying my best to make art in medieval style, illumination, etc. Even this early in my journey, I would be horrified to be called a “tube painter” My question is, although many knowledgeable folks say buying the color black is unnecessary because it is not a true color, I have read that mixing different blacks, w ...
Pastel & Gouache together - WetCanvas: Online Living for Artists
Mar 24, 2007 · I use a gouache underpainting often on Wallis, preferably that has been dry mounte to prevent buckling. Only use it as a wash, not ‘body’ paint to prevent the tooth from being filled. Gouache is better than watercolor I think because it’s so much more intensely pigmented. The coverage as an underpainting is better with gouache.
Gouache with Glycerin - WetCanvas: Online Living for Artists
Oct 13, 2017 · Gouache has by default the tendency to dry rock hard and crack in heavy applications and look chalky after drying for the same reason. When you use glycerine in your gouache you increase the moisture in the mix and also make it more elastic, is something like using acrylic medium in acrylics in order not to allow them to dry that fast.
Chinese white, titanium white, gouache? Discuss - WetCanvas: …
Apr 8, 2018 · Technically the higher quality gouache is just pigment, gum arabic, and the same other standard additives we see in watercolors. But the pigments are not ground as finely, or more are used. I have used and tried “Designers Gouache Permanent White” (PW6) by Winsor Newton, works well with watercolors, add a bit of glycerin and it’s rewettable.
Discussion: Gouache BRAND COMPARISON - WetCanvas: Online …
Jan 23, 2009 · Others like Turner or Lukas designer gouaches are very good quality paints. LeFranc has a gouache that used to be labeled designer but now is called “fine” (their “Linel” gouache is a better grade.) Reeves is rather low quality and only use the label “gouache.” Essentially, that all means the paint quality for gouache varies wildly.
