Mar 1, 2008 · Gold rum to me says just that: Rum that is right around the same color as a lager beer. This will, then, be lighter in color and less intense in flavor/wood than an amber rum, which I see as being right around the same color as a good bitter ale.

Jul 23, 2004 · Stubbs is distilled in Queensland, Australia from molasses and their gold is good for mixing and at that price should be a bargain. Stubbs Gold is a little too young to really enjoy on the rocks but in fruit based cocktails, especially those with lime, it should fit the bill. What proof is that one? Most of their export is bottled at 40% alcohol.

I currently have Smith & Cross, Appleton V/X, Goslings Black Seal, Burgal Gold, Wray & Nephew Overproof, Cruzan White, and Lemonhart 151 to play with for rum(and Batavia Arrack, to stretch the category).

Jul 26, 2002 · I don't normally get excited about new Bacardi products, but this one at least is somewhat interesting -- Ciclón ("Cyclone") is a blend of gold Bacardi rum with blue agave tequila and natural lime flavoring. They are marketing it under its own brand name, rather than under the Bacardi umbrella.

Cruzan Light Rum is easily the best light rum I've had, with Mount Gay being my favorite amber, but it seems you need to pay decent money for a good spiced rum - any suggestions for a good "accessible" spiced rum?

One I tried recently is Kelbo's Scorpion with dark Jamaican rum (I used Appleton 12), gin (I used Beefeater), brandy, plus orange juice, lime juice, passion fruit syrup and orgeat. Quite good. The Fogcutter has rum (usually gold or white), gin, brandy and sherry.

Jul 8, 2003 · I've seen other recipes that call for 2 oz. gold rum, at which point I would probably use Mount Gay or Appleton V/X. It's the dark rum that really throws me, here, because the only consistent definition of dark rum I've seen is "rum that contains ridiculous amounts of caramel colouring to make it look black."
