The GNSR Johnson G10 0-4-4T Locomotives. Manson designed a series of 0-6-0T engines (LNER J90 and J91) which were used on the newly inaugurated Aberdeen suburban trains. It is thought that Manson realised the solution was a new 0-4-4T type, but due to a lack of funds this was not realised until the tenure of James Johnson in 1893.

In 1905 the GNSR introduced two articulated steam railcars. The locomotive unit was mounted on four 3 feet 7 inches (1.09 m) wheels, one pair driven and with the Cochran patent boiler that was common on stationary engines, but an unusual design for a locomotive.

The GNSR Classes X and Y were two similar classes of 0-4-2 T steam locomotives built by Manning Wardle for the Great North of Scotland Railway. The two classes were similar, and were used throughout their lives to shunt on the docks at Aberdeen.

These represented a distinct advance on other GNSR locomotives of the day. The driving wheels were slightly larger at 6ft 1in, and the boilers operated at 165psi. The second were the Class R (LNER G10) 0-4-4Ts. These had a very similar boiler to the Class S locomotives.
