An excellent upmarket choice just 5 minutes walk from the station is the small and intimate Hotel Canal Grande - I've stayed there myself. You could also try the Abazzia De Luxe.

You can buy tickets from there as well as check schedules, delays, etc. Typically flights inbound to Europe are rarely delayed by any great measure and often depends on where you are departing from (JFK is more reliable than LGA, in my opinion).
