Jan 24, 2012 · If a gas valve with a shutoff switch is unused and shut off in the off position, should it still be capped? (e.g. valve for dryer, wall furnace, cooking range, etc.) And if cap, with what, a generic plumbing pipe/valve cap?

Jan 30, 2009 · If replacing the thermopile doesn't work, then you need a new gas valve. If the appliance is a boiler or furnace, it'll use 24 VAC to operate the "main" valve. Check to see if you're getting 24 VAC at the terminals on the gas valve. If so, and the boiler or furnace isn't firing up, then you need a new gas valve.

A 24V check of the gas valve when the thermostat shuts it off will prove is the gas shut off is instant or delayed. Either a faulty gas valve or a mother board could cause both of these fault codes.

When the HSI heats up and gas valve fails to open, I measure about 3V across the valve. If I pull off the molex connector and measure the voltage, I always see around 24V

Jan 6, 2013 · I have a natural gas key valve that runs to my fireplace. The valve is built into the brick. The valve stem that the key goes into is partially stripped. Can a specialist repair the stem with some kind of slim tool to get the packing nut off and put in new stem?
