Jan 19, 2012 · Yet another dumb question. One of the school's rental 172s has a GNS 530 and I'm trying to figure out if it has WAAS capability. What's the easiest way to tell? Do these manuals from the plane make it clear that it does have WAAS?, i.e. does the "W" stand for WAAS, as opposed to Weather?

Feb 7, 2014 · It is definitely different to operate the GTN vs GNS series, I don't know that I would want them both in the same airplane, also having double the database costs is a biggie! I like them both, I prefer the 750/650 over the 530/430, but if budget is a factor, which I assume it is, I'd go for a used 530W.

Jun 18, 2012 · I can't speak to the 480 installation, but in a Tiger (or any other AA-5-series), a 430/530 installed in the primary stack does not require even a separate GPS/NAV annunciator if you use the Garmin GI-106 CDI.

Nov 11, 2015 · Garmin stopped upgrading their dedicate Garmin 400/500 series sim years ago. If you have a newer operating system, it isn't going to work. BUT, they do have a G600 sim available for download and it includes and integrated 430/530 sim that runs just fine on Windows 7. I haven't checked it on W8 or W10, but I suspect it will work.

Jul 23, 2020 · When I flew behind the 530/430 combo, combined with Foreflight, I could make changes on the go and push them to the GPS. Adding the Flightstream is the only way to add the airways with all intersections.

Jan 13, 2010 · Aircraft is equipped with a Garmin G500, GNS 530/430, and KAP150 auto pilot. While I have 800+ hours total time, very little is IFR procedures with the 530/430. And what I have done with success were the normal-easy-to-accomplish items, not the oddball. All my other experience is Garmin 480 and GTN, and they can make what happened a walk in park.

Oct 12, 2013 · Garmin has a coupon for $200 and a rebate for $250 so every little bit helps. I decided to try loading an approach from the iPad to the 530 and that worked too.

May 23, 2006 · Ever since our WAAS upgrade, we've been losing the GPS satellites about half of our flights. Hubby phoned Garmin & they said to have the mechanic install a loaner. On the flight back after installing the loaner, the GPS went completely black and he lost the comms as well as display.:hairraise...

Dec 15, 2016 · so just bought a 1970 182 with a Garmin 530. No WAAS, traffic, etc. barebones. Trying to find out the cost for the subscription. Is it through garmin or Jepp? On a side note, is it worth it to upgrade to WAAS, traffic, wx, or just go the extra mile and buy a 650 or 750?
