Jan 2, 2025 · GameStop tried retro stuff multiple times in the past. Every time the end result was lots of stuff getting scrapped making things even rarer. They also did have exclusive physical releases. People will point at the move to digital being the main factor, but it's much more than that. GameStop made a lot of money by having a stream of new releases.

Nov 4, 2022 · When I worked at Electronics Boutique (EB Games) 20 years ago, the display case on the shelf was the "gutted" copy that was filed behind the counter. I'm not sure who or what started it, this was before the Gamestop merge as well. But, I'm surprised they STILL do it. So many people hated it then, so many people hate it now, and understandably so.

Apr 7, 2008 · In my experience as a GameStop manager, the company's facory refurbs were much more reliable than used systems that get traded in. It was very rare that a refurb would come back defective. However, I left the company before they started selling refurbed Wii and PS3 systems. The price isn't that great, but what do you expect from GameStop?

The sales guy at the counter gave me attitude after i refused to buy a gutted floor copy of the game, which had scuff marks and dents all over the box. The guy was like "it's brand new. I got mostly what I expected to receive by selling online instead. I know they have to make money on the things they buy, but their offers were always so ridiculously low.

Jan 13, 2015 · Still though, my local GameStop couldn't switch out for the right game, even if they had a copy of the disc, I had to drive back out to the mall about thirty minutes away to switch the disc out. The employee who gave me the wrong game was done, but according to the employees who were there that employee constantly does that.
