Utilising the Standard number 10 boilers, 5 feet 2 inch driving wheels, copper capped chimneys and large wide cabs with side windows, the class found favour working short haul main line trains and branch passenger usage.

2884 2-8-0 GWR Collett 2884-2899 & 3800-3866
This was the Collett version of the 2800 class. Built 20 years after the last 2800 class locomotive was built. They were slightly heavier with large side-windowed cabs and outside steam pipes.

The GWR 1400 Class is a class of steam locomotive designed by the Great Western Railway for branch line passenger work. It was originally classified as the 4800 Class when introduced in 1932, and renumbered in 1946. Although credited to Charles Collett, the design dated back to 1868 with the introduction of the George Armstrong 517 class.
