The GER Class C53 was a class of twelve 0-6-0 T steam tram locomotives designed by James Holden for the Great Eastern Railway. They passed to the London and North Eastern Railway at the grouping, and received the LNER classification J70.

The LNER J70 formally the GER Class C53 is a type of 0-6-0T steam tram, designed by James Holden and introduced in 1903 and all of them got scrapped by 1955. These replaced the older Y6 GER Class G15, they ended up looking extremely similar.

Class C53 of 1903 was an up-dating of Worsdell’s 0-4-0 tram engine design with greater power. Although the boiler was practically the same as before, it was of heavier construction, being designed for a working pressure of 180 lbs. psi.

These locomotives had 11-by-15-inch (279 mm × 381 mm) inside cylinders driving 3-foot-1-inch (0.940 m) wheels. They were used on the Wisbech and Upwell Tramway in East Anglia. They were later used elsewhere after being replaced by the more powerful GER Class C53 (LNER Class J70) 0-6-0Ts.
