The Great Western Railway (GWR) 1500 Class is a class of 0-6-0 pannier tank steam locomotive. Despite being a GWR Hawksworth design, all ten (nos 1500–1509) were completed under the administration of the Western Region of British Railways in 1949, just after Nationalisation.

The design was a major departure from the GWR’s tried and tested pannier tank formula. Designed by Frederick Hawksworth and his team, the 15XX featured a very short wheelbase for negotiating tight curves, as well as outside cylinders and Walschaerts valve gear.

The 10 locomotives built were different from all other tank designs on the GWR. Above the running plate level they were similar to the 9400 class but the 1500 class had no running plate and had outside cylinders with Walschaert valve gear.
