The General Service Unit (GSU) is a paramilitary wing (i.e. Police Field Force) in the Kenya Police Service, consisting of highly trained police officers, transported by seven dedicated Cessnas and three Bell helicopters.

Presidential guard Sub-unit is vested with the mandate of offering security to State Houses, State Lodges, the first family, Former Heads of State, Former Vice President and their residences.

The period between 1961 and Kenya’s independence on 12 th December 1963, saw the GSU being deployed chiefly as anti-riot squads to highly populated centres. The Unit played a decisive role in ensuring that peace and tranquillity prevailed during the period of political instability.
