One source clocked the 1982 Suzuki GS650G at 12.91 seconds in the quarter mile and stated the top speed was 125MPH. Period road tests say the engine burns oil. One source states on a broke in bike it burned a quart every 1,800 miles.

The GS650G is particularly notable for its unique styling that presents a thoroughly futuristic and sporty impression. Its 4-cylinder DOHC 2-valve 650 cm³ engine is equipped with the Suzuki Twin Dome Combustion Chambers (STDCCs) and generates maximum horsepower of 65 PS and maximum torque of 51.98 N·m.

The GS650G was the very first Katana and its design, known as ED-1, was created by Jan Fellstrom back in 1979. Suzuki’s ED-1 prototype first appeared in early 1980 at the Kern Motor Show and was ready for production later that year.
