The GPU's heat spreader is much smaller in area than a CPU's. The reason you are getting thick coverage is because of the quantity, not the method. Apply a very small dot instead of a rice grain sized dot.

At the end of the day, so long as you've got decent paste from a reliable manufacturer you're fine. Specific paste choice is only an issue for extreme overclockers or people repasting laptops where even 2-3C gains are needed.

When you put it on a processor die, like on a GPU, completely cover it. Applying too much thermal paste won't usually damage anything unless you get it everywhere and it's conductive.
Honeywell PTM7950 or Thermal Grizzly KryoSheet for GPU?

However, Thermal Grizzly recently released the "KryoSheet", a graphene thermal pad with "outstanding and constant thermal conductivity". Has anyone testet it and can compare the two, specifically with usage in a GPU?

Jun 2, 2021 · I changed the GPU paste to the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut one (12,5 W/MK) I removed the old one with microfiber towel and a very little isopropanol alcohol. I carefully remove all pads with metallic tweezers without touching any other metallic piece. Then I cleaned the VRAM cells again with microfiber towel and isoprop, and dried it.
