The GP2 Series car was used by all of the teams, and features a Dallara carbon-fiber monocoque chassis powered by a Mecachrome normally-aspirated fuel-injected V8 engine and Pirelli dry slick and rain treaded tyres. Overall weight is 688 kg including driver.

Formula 2 is designed to make racing relatively affordable for the teams and to make it an ideal training ground for life in Formula One. The series is a spec series; all teams are required to use the same chassis, engine, and tire supplier.

The GP2 Series originally started in 2005 with 12 teams on the grid, and Trident joined the field in 2006 after being selected among 10 other top motorsports teams. In 2017, the GP2 Series was renamed Formula 2 and became a key step for towards Formula 1.

The team has won 12 championship in many categories such as Formula 3, World Series and GP2. The French driver Franck Montagny, the Briton Justin Wilson, Lucas Di Grassi and Dani Clos, are some of the drivers who entered the highest category in international motor sports after competing with Racing Engineering in Formula 3, World Series or GP2.

Apr 1, 2025 · Here is a list of GP2/F2 teams since 2005. I included modern F2 because it's a bit hard to separate both series. Despite trying to have the accurate team names each season, to simplify the task I didn't include the many sponsorship changes often associated, which didn't interfere with the main name of the squad.
