All are GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electrics built in Juniata and rated at 4,620 horsepower each. All were built during 1935: #4838 in July, #4840 in April, #4846 in May, and #4828 in June. All of their pantographs are in the "up" position.

Apr 8, 2025 · If you don't have time to look at it, it's a chopped-in-half GG-1. According to the photographer, it's Amtrak 4846. His comments say that it was used as a switcher and to melt snow/ice off of switches in the winter.

May 19, 2022 · TLDR; It was a snow blower used in the Wilmington DE Shops, built from the remains of wrecked GG1 #4846. If we follow the PRR’s naming scheme, it would probably be called a G6, where G means 4-6-0 and 6 means the 6th locomotive made with this wheel configuration. That is, assuming the G5 was preceded by G1-4 already.

Mar 8, 2024 · Amtrak GG1 4846 was involved in an accident and the enterprising employees at the Wilmington Shops used the non-wrecked part to create a snow blower for the area around the shops. I have never seen a photograph of this thing actually working; every time we ever dropped by the shops it was sitting around doing nothing.
