GBU-24 Paveway III or simply GBU-24 is a family of laser-guided bombs, a sub-group of the larger Raytheon Paveway III family of weapons. The Paveway guidance package consists of a seeker package attached to the nose of the weapon, and a wing kit attached to the rear to provide stability and greater range.

U.S. Navy crewmen loading GBU-12s onto an F-14. The GBU-12 Paveway II is an American aerial laser-guided bomb, based on the Mk 82 500 lb (230 kg) [3] general-purpose bomb, but with the addition of a nose-mounted laser seeker and fins for guidance.

The Guided Bomb Unit‐72 (GBU‐72), also known as the Advanced 5K (A5K) Penetrator, is a bunker busting bomb developed in the United States. The GBU-72 is described as a 5,000 lb (2,300 kg) class precision-guided bunker busting bomb which uses a JDAM guidance kit. [3]

The LGTR (Laser Guided Training Round) is an inert cylindrical bomb body of 10 cm (4 in) diameter with a Paveway II guidance kit, and emulates the GBU-10( )/B, GBU-12( )/B and GBU-16( )/B live munitions.

The primary difference from the GBU-24/B is that the GBU-27/B uses a Paveway II-type airfoil group, and slightly more compact suspension logs. All GBU-27/B series weapons use penetrating warheads, either the BLU-109/B or the BLU-116/B .

The most numerous weapons used in the Gulf were the TI Paveway II family of LGB kits, the GBU-10, GBU-12 and GBU-14, attached to Mk.84, Mk.82 and Mk.83 bombs respectively. These were supplemented by the newer GBU-24 and GBU-27 Paveway 3, attached to Mk.84 or BLU-109 penetrating warheads.

The GBU-12, GBU-16, and GBU-10 guided bomb units (GBUs) (fig. 1-33) are Mk 82, Mk 83, and Mk 84 LDGP bombs modified to detect a target illuminated by a laser beam. The modification consists of a MAU-169 series computer control group (CCG) and MXU-650, 651, or 667 series airfoil group (AFG).

The Guided Bomb Unit-24 (GBU-24) Low Level Laser Guided Bomb [LLLGB] consists of either a 2,000-pound MK-84 general purpose or BLU-109 penetrator bomb modified with a Paveway III low-level laser-guided bomb kit to add the proportional guidance in place of the bang-bang type used in the Paveway II.
