Grizzly G4003 versus G4003G - The Hobby-Machinist
Feb 9, 2019 · The fit and finish of the comparable Taiwanese machinery of similar models is better. I would suggest you look at the PM-1236GT which is a higher quality lathe compared to the G4003/g and priced in the same range. If you are new to machining/lathe I would suggest buying new, as availability/the price difference of a "good" used lathe has gone up.
New DRO Install on G4003G Lathe - The Hobby-Machinist
Oct 2, 2023 · I like the smaller one for the cross slide, because the sensor cable can easily pass under it. I watched other install videos and with the larger 25mm slides they had to mill out a slot in the saddle for the cable to pass under the slide. See example of …
What is the difference between the G4003 and the G4003G lathes?
Sep 10, 2013 · OK, I know the immediate difference between the G4003 and G4003G is that the later has a "G" at the end, while the former does not. I also know the first one is green while the second is white. It seems to me one comes with the stand and the other one doesn't? I am also aware I can easily compare both lathes with Grizzly's compare tool.
New To Me G4003 | The Hobby-Machinist
Mar 7, 2025 · New here, just bought a slightly used G4003. Still has the clear coating over the control panels. I have some experience with a South Bend 9" so the control levers on the new machine are very similar in operation. Just confused about one thing, so far. The owner's manual clearly states in the...
Grizzly G4003 lathe cross slide | The Hobby-Machinist
Jan 5, 2023 · Most ball screws are right handed thread. The cross slide needs a left handed thread. A low cost, low quality, Chinese left handed, 12 mm balscrew, 450 mm long, 2 mm pitch for my lathe will cost about € 250.
G4003G Headstock Alignment - The Hobby-Machinist
Jun 16, 2017 · A friend has had a G4003G for months now and finally getting around to leveling it, alignment, etc. and has asked me to help. He's not PC savvy so I'm his lifeline, so to speak. He surprisingly anchored his lathe to the floor after I advised him I …
Carriage Stop for G4003G - The Hobby-Machinist
Jan 21, 2020 · I want a Carriage stop to prevent "CRASH". BION Grizzly themselves only has them for their monster lathes. They recommended calling SHARS. No luck there either. My concern is mauling the ways with some junk. Also if it will slip because it is a Gap Bed lathe. Any advice or sources...
New G4003G Lathe - Alignment Problem | The Hobby-Machinist
Nov 1, 2013 · Here's my usual "diatribe" regarding lathe alignment... 1) Level doesn't mean anything. 2) If the lathe cuts properly, don't worry about measured differences in bed dimensions etc.
Improving rigidity and surface finish on the G4003 lathe
Jul 20, 2013 · A G4003 is a fairly substantial lathe with enough mass to dampen most of it's own vibrations. You might want to look for other sources of problems such as the bench, the balance of the chucks and the main sheave off the drive belts.
G4003 change gear specs. | The Hobby-Machinist
Mar 29, 2020 · Hi, I'm Lee and I'm a cheapskate. I got a lathe without change gears and I'm not paying what they want for a set. I want to cut my own. I measured up some that are in the drive train and kept coming really close to mod 1.5. I'm thinking that they are indeed mod 1.5 Now as to pressure angle I...
