
9 0-6-0T Glasgow & South Western Railway Class 5
G&SWR locomotive 9 was built for dock shunting in 1917 by the North British Locomotive Co as one of a class of three engines designed by Peter Drummond (younger brother of Dugald Drummond). In 1919 it was renumbered 324 and subsequently became LME 16379 in 1923.

Drummond also turned attention to tank locomotives, a type which had been markedly avoided on the G&SWR, and introduced a class of 0-6-2T's, 18 in number, for Ayrshire coal traffic and general short distance goods - also a class of three dock shunters.

The Glasgow and South Western seems to have come off worst out of this, and this outside cylindered 0-6-0T is not representative of some of the main line power the G&SWR produced. It survives, like so many other pre-grouping designs, because it was sold off for colliery use.
