The Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor, also known as Kurier (German for courier[2]) to the Allies, is an all-metal four-engined monoplane designed and produced by the German aircraft manufacturer Focke-Wulf.

Focke Wulf Fw 200 Condor made its mark during the Second World War. In this capacity, acting in co-operation with U-boat packs, it formed one of the most effective Luftwaffe combinations of the war, and many a convoy was to rue the moment it first spied a Condor above the horizon. Number built: 276.

In August 1942, a Fw 200C-3 was the first German aircraft to be destroyed by USAAF pilots, after it was attacked by a P-40C and a P-38F over Iceland. From mid-1941, Fw 200 crews were now instructed not to attack, and to evade all combat unless unavoidable. The Fw 200's were used to report allied shipping movements.

The Fw 200 was an elegant machine, of all-metal construction, except for fabric-covered flight-control surfaces and the wing covered with fabric aft of the main spar; it was powered by four radial engines mounted on a wide-span low-mounted wing. All flight control surfaces were manually actuated, though the split flaps were hydraulically actuated.

Jul 17, 2023 · Note: This Focke Wulf Fw200 "Condor" F8+BR was built in 1940 and had to ditch in 1942 in the Norwegian Trondheimfjord. It was found in 1981 and recovered from a depth of 60m in 1999. Unfortunately, the hull broke shortly after being recovered...
