Oct 28, 2015 · You do need three wires to the valve. The common is shared; there are two solenoids, pv opens first, spark lights the gas, module detects flame then energizes mv as well. Most modern furnaces sold now have hot surface ignition which doesn't use a pilot; ignitor heats up, then power is applied to the main valve. Uses a totally different valve.-----

Mar 25, 2015 · Recently, the gas valve has been chattering (3-4 clackity clacks before settling in an open position) on light up. The gas valve is a Honeywell VR8205S2296 converted for propane. During valve chatter, I can see the 24v input voltage coming from 0.40” WC pressure switch (PN 42-24195-03) and going to the gas valve bounce on and off.

The furnace works fine as is but of course, without a thermostat, does not turn on (and more importantly) turn off, by itself as required by code and for safety.

Dec 20, 2024 · The furnace fails to ignite, the gas stops, and the draft inducer motor spins down. Maybe 3 seconds after the inducer motor stops, it ramps back up again. This time the HSI starts glowing and maybe a second later the gas solenoid/valve opens and ignites the furnace. What would cause a delayed opening of the gas valve for the first cycle attempt?
