Sep 13, 2019 · After a few months of research, discussion and a lot of constructive feedback, I was able to actually embed a RTL-SDR dongle inside the FT-991A and exporting its interface through the radio's USB port - No external extra wires, ports or whatsoever - Everything coming down neatly from the existing USB port, along the CAT and Audio interfaces.

Aug 19, 2017 · The FT-991A was a natural choice for the Fusion mode which works on HF as well as VHF and UHF! I enjoy the distance/heading function that Fusion offers. I can only think of one thing that Yaesu needs to add onto the 991A, On the GPS/CAT DB-9 Serial connector, for the GPS add a GPS power (selectable voltage) to pin #4 to the connector.

May 4, 2019 · I will go over the 7 reasons why I chose the Yaesu FT-991A in this video. I just bought my very first HF Radio! You would think it would be an easy and stress free decision, BUT, there is some tough competition. My budget was around $1,000 +/- a few hundred. The Icom IC-7300 is a beautiful radio and that was my runner up.

Aug 5, 2021 · The FT-991A offers features the IC-7300 does not, including VHF and UHF all mode coverage, and Yaesu C4FM/Fusion. If someone desires those capabilities, then the FT-991A is the logical choice. However, for mainly HF operation, the IC-7300 seems superior.

Aug 5, 2021 · The FT-991A in my opinion is unmatched in the all band/all mode world FOR THE price, and has great audio on side band when used with a quality microphone. I plan to keep both rigs for the time being but if pressed would probably let go of the IC-7300 first just because the Yaesu covers more bands.

Aug 19, 2017 · Using the old MD-1 Yaesu microphone and EQplus for compressor/limiter and downwards expander i don't use the FT 991A compressor, just the EQ settings. All bands are getting noisier, specially 160 where i mostly am, and having the noise fighting abilities of the FT991A makes life and listening a lot easier.

Aug 5, 2021 · Like many, I analyzed the IC-7300 and FT-991A to death with a spreadsheet showing all the specs. I decided on the FT-991A simply because I wanted to try 2m SSB. After 8 months, I am perfectly satisfied with my decision. The only thing that I miss are the buttons and knobs to control IF Shift, band selection, RF gain to name a few.
