The Yaesu FRV-8800 VHF Converter was designed to work exclusively with the Yaesu FRG-8800. It adds all mode reception from 118 to 173.999 MHz. The FRG-8800 LCD will properly display the full frequency. This internal VHF converter simply slides into to the back of the radio. It has an SO-239 antenna input jack. There is also a (VHF) Local-DX switch.

On the positive, the Yaesu FRG-8800 is well-built & sturdy, one of the last I think with a real communications receiver feel to it. And the audio is fantastic, a good deep sound. On the negative I didn’t find the FRG-8800 to be especially sensitive, not enough for dx’ing utilities. The FRG-100 is far more sensitive.
