Mar 4, 2024 · Simple explanation: a PTU (Power Transfer Unit) and RDU (Rear Drive Unit) are what transfer the engine & axial rotation that runs along the car, out sideways to power both wheels. Only the AWD version will have an RDU as they power all 4 wheels.

Jun 12, 2024 · I have AWD so there's a front unit to transfer power to the rear. I had read accounts suggesting factory fills on these units may be low. There's youtube how to video but most show doing it using a hoist, not laying on the ground... like me! Both had magnetic drain plugs. Both had accumulated debris.

This DANA on-demand AWD system uses a cooled Power Transfer Unit or PTU that attaches to transaxle and sends power to the Rear Drive Unit.

From what I've read, the RDU and PTU will take a little less than a quart each, and the transmission 5 quarts. This is accounting for not getting all the old fluid out.
