Mar 18, 2015 · As far as the brakes go, I ride a tall gear ratio, a little over 3:1 (46/15), which makes it hard to skid stop, plus I don't want to burn through my gatorskins. So I use a front brake, it's safer and quicker and easier and less damaging to tires.

The issues are: No Disc Brake Mounts; Fixed-gear frames do not have mounts for a disc brake. And the only option is to weld one. The procedure requires machining, welding, grinding, sanding, and re-painting of the area.

By default, a fixed-gear bike a.k.a. fixie isn’t designed for disc brakes. That said, it’s possible to add a front and rear disc brake, but the process will require the replacement of the fork, machining, and welding.
