Filopodia - Wikipedia
Filopodia (sg.: filopodium) are slender cytoplasmic projections that extend beyond the leading edge of lamellipodia in migrating cells. [1] Within the lamellipodium, actin ribs are known as microspikes, and when they extend beyond the lamellipodia, they're known as filopodia. [2]
Filopodia: molecular architecture and cellular functions
May 9, 2008 · Filopodia are thin, actin-rich, finger-like structures that are involved in numerous cellular processes, such as cell migration, wound healing, neurite outgrowth and embryonic development.
Filopodia: integrating cellular functions with theoretical models
Jul 4, 2024 · Filopodia, widely distributed on cell surfaces, are distinguished by their dynamic extensions, playing pivotal roles in a myriad of biological processes. Their functions span from mechanosensing and guidance to cell–cell communication during …

Nov 30, 2023 · Filopodia are dynamic structures that are primarily composed of F-actin bundles and whose initiation and elongation are precisely regulated by the rate of actin filament assembly, convergence and cross-linking.
Filopodia initiation: Focus on the Arp2/3 complex and formins
Filopodia are long, slender, actin-rich cellular protrusions, which recently have become a focus of cell biology research because of their proposed roles as sensory and exploratory organelles that allow for “intelligent” cell behavior. Actin ...

Aug 21, 2001 · Filopodia are thin, dynamic cell extensions comprising tight bundles of long actin filaments covered with cell membrane. They can change their length rapidly, span many cell diameters, and interact with other cells.
Filopodia: The Fingers That Do the Walking | Science's STKE - AAAS
Filopodia are actin-based structures composed of parallel bundles of actin filaments and various actin-associated proteins, and they play important roles in cell-cell signaling, guidance toward chemoattractants, and adhesion to the extracellular matrix.
May 8, 2024 · Filopodia are generic structures present in virtually all cell types and are responsible for cellular activities such as spatial organization, motility, probing, and transport of molecules, vesicles, and viruses.
What is the Difference Between Lamellipodia and Filopodia
Sep 25, 2022 · The main difference between lamellipodia and filopodia is that lamellipodia are cytoskeletal protein projections made up of actin proteins on the leading edge of the cell, whereas filopodia are slender cytoplasmic projections that extend beyond the lamellipodia.

Sep 1, 2011 · Latest research revealed that filopodia are important not only for sensing the substrate but for all of the aforementioned highly regulated processes. However, the exact regulatory mechanisms are still barely understood. Here, we demonstrate that filopodia of human keratinocytes exhibit distinct cycles of repetitive elongation and persistence.
