Fart lighting, also known as pyroflatulence or flatus ignition, is the practice of igniting the gases produced by flatulence. The resulting flame is often of a blue hue hence the act being known colloquially as a " blue angel ", " blue dart " or in Australia , a " blue flame ".

Hydrogen, the most flammable gut gas, is very easily lit – even in concentrations down to 4%. Gut bacteria produce hydrogen as they break down fibre, such as beans. Depending on the quantity of fibre consumed, hydrogen content of flatulence can vary between 8% and 63%.

Technically, due to the small amount of methane and other flammable gases (like hydrogen) that are released during farting emissions, you can light your farts on fire. This is known as fart lighting, or pyroflatulence, and is very dangerous to try.
