Jul 21, 2015 · Given your location, AWD is not needed, FWD is fine. I agree that Southern PA doesn’t get enough snow to warrant. But I completely disagree that there isn’t a difference AWD vs FWD. We own all three. FWD Lexus, 4wd 4runner and AWD Highlander. There’s significant difference in handling and acceleration with AWD or 4wd over FWD.

Jan 22, 2025 · I just find out that one of the previous owners put 175 65r15 tires on my used 09 Focus. The right size is 195 60r15. So I went to a shop and bought two toyo 195 tires for the back only. Then when i get paid ill get the front ones next week. Do tires have to match on FWD vehicles? Well, no, of course not, …
Sep 27, 2011 · The difference between fwd and awd is the type of differential. On most awd systems, somewhere in the system is some type of limited slip device, and a different tire will chew that up. On most (but not all) fwd cars there is no limited slip device, so two slightly-different sized tires will not result in a quick mechanical failure.
Why no FWD pickup? - Maintenance/Repairs - Car Talk Community
Oct 25, 2014 · With a FWD truck putting weight in the far back could decrease traction in front and make for a truck that slipped going up Hills and handled badly. AND makes a lot of sense for trucks, but adds cost and weight. The little VW and Dodge/Plymouth FWD trucks sold in very modest numbers, though I recall the VW being popular with gardening services.

Feb 22, 2011 · If you are concerned enough about winter driving, your answer is you need winter tires. FWD mini vans with winter tires are good snow vehicles. AWD with winter tires is better but there are extra maintenance, repair, and higher fuel costs to consider. You pay a lot for the benefits of AWD over the life of the vehicle.
Front wheel drive towing capacity - Car Talk Community
Oct 1, 2008 · The other limiting factor is towing with a fwd vehicle. It’s far better to tow with a rwd vehicle. If the trailer starts to sway it’ll move the back of a fwd vehicle around with no easy way of getting it under control. RWD is far better at controlling the rear end of a vehicle then fwd. I think 2500lbs is way too much for ANY fwd vehicle.
AWD vs FWD & Limited Slip Differential - Car Talk Community
Feb 20, 2010 · The problem is, they never transfer as much power as a full lock and only on one axle. Traction control is a good and safer compromise as it’s much cheaper to add to a fwd, works nearly as well as limited slip but at the expense of brakes while providing better modulated control for steering on the front.
Front or rear wheel drive better for getting up steep dirt road?
May 11, 2015 · I need to rent a minivan or SUV to get up to a house that is ¼ mile up a steep, twisty dirt road. Rental car options are limited. Do you think a front wheel drive or rear wheel drive car would be better? I know AWD would be preferable but that is not an option. Getting down the road hasn’t been a problem in the past. Just getting up it, especially if its wet.
