The different slope in the Military power graph looks odd, but as there are other F6F-5 data sets around with a difference of similar magnitude in the opposite direction, I'm not overly concerned.

Nov 9, 2015 · Claims from Grumman stated that the F6F-3 & F6F-5, despite reading a difference in 10-15 miles an hour, were actually much closer in top speed due to a repositioning of the pitot-static system so it would be closer to the F4U-1. It seems an odd thing to lying about admitting to (as it seems to be confessing to fraud).

German loss records show both a Ju 88 (#1682, Ltn Hoss, from 1(F)/22) and a He 115 (#1866, Ofw Schultz, from 1/406) as missing. One source indicates that the Ju 88 was indeed lost to VF-4. After the F4F came the F6F as the mainstay of USN carrier fighter operations.

Dec 24, 2008 · F6F for low and middle altitudes (for which it was designed). P47 had the payload, range and speed. F6F had the handling and low altitude performance. When you think of it though, they're two different fighters for two totally different roles. Its hard to compare the two without having to factor in what the mission requirements were.

As for the F6F it won the war in the Pacific after the line was held by the F4F and P40. It was the top scorer period and that speaks for itself.
