Jan 19, 2019 · Jøtul F400 Castine in ivory deep set hearth install top vent connected to 15’ insulated SS liner. Blower on fireplace floor behind stove. I could not control temps with out it. Would easily overfire when air control completely closed without the blower.

Oct 5, 2021 · Our F400 was rear vented to an elbow and straight up through the roof with a 20’ flue. This was done to increase wall clearance. The stove did not spill smoke when the outside temperature was <45. Above that temp I had to open the door quite slowly to avoid smoke spillage. As EbS noted the firebox is wide and shallow.

Jan 10, 2024 · Yup for sure. I upgraded fron a 1984 jotul 3 to a jotul f400. The larger firebox of the f400 is a big improvement over the jotul 3. That said the f400 may still not be "up to your families standards". In fact i bet it won't. but you already have it and it should be an easy switch. The f400 is still quite a bit smaller than your previous stove.

Nov 15, 2022 · Brand new to the forum, not new to woodburning. Recently upgraded my Quadrafire voyager insert to a Jotul F400 to get away from the blower and enable longer burns/easier ash removal. The F400 is a used stove I bought for $1K that I believe is in good shape. Stove is rear exit setup into a SS liner all the way up a 2 story exterior masonry chimney.

May 23, 2020 · I had the F400 on a 20ft. straight up 6" flue, it worked very well. 15 ft straight up should work, but few extra feet wouldn't hurt if possible. Where you need more height is if it is rear-vented. It isn't that finicky a stove to run, but it has a large door and shallow E/W firebox.

I am planning to run Selkirk/Metalbestos stove and chimney pipe (already purchased) straight up through the living room ceiling, into a closet, and then out the 2nd floor roof.
