May 13, 2020 · For 50 years, Ford trucks were known as the F-series, or F1 for short. To celebrate their 50th anniversary in 1953, they changed this designation to the F100. This change was partially influenced by the North American F100 Super Sabre jet fighter. Ford then built the F100 models for 30 more years before changing to the current F150.
