The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle (SLR), also known by the initial Canadian designation C1, or in the U.S. as the "inch pattern" FAL, is a British version of the Belgian FN FAL battle rifle.

The FAL (French: Fusil Automatique Léger, English: Light Automatic Rifle) is a battle rifle designed in Belgium by Dieudonné Saive and manufactured by FN Herstal and others since 1953. During the Cold War the FAL was adopted by many countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), with the notable exception of the United States.

May 3, 2003 · The L1A1 - F1 was a version of the Australian SLR . The barrel was the same length as a standard SLR. The flash hider/ muzzle brake was a little shorter than the standard flash hider , but it fit farther onto the barrel , thus giving the rifle a shorter overall length.

Jan 3, 2011 · I can confidently say the as far as build quality, the worst FAL is probably better made and far more accurate than the best soviet rifle, and almost as reliable. And speaking of the worst FAL, the Indian 1A-SL, built at Ishapore, probably falls into that catagory as far as build quality is concerned.
