Produced by North American Aviation, the Sabre is best known as the United States' first swept-wing fighter that could counter the swept-wing Soviet MiG-15 in high-speed dogfights in the skies of the Korean War (1950–1953), fighting some of the earliest jet-to-jet battles in history.

The F-86 Sabre was developed in response to a 1944 request for a single-seat high-altitude fighter. The chief designer was Edgar Schmued, who had also designed the P-51 Mustang. The F-86 was derived from the design of the straight-wing FJ Fury series of Navy aircraft.

F-86F-30 Sabre Military History. The North American F-86 Sabre was designed in the 1940's as a subsonic fighter aircraft. The Sabre entered service with the United States Air Force in 1949. The F-86 saw action and became the primary U.S. air combat fighter in the Korean War.

Introduced in Update 1.39, the F-86F-30 (Japan) is a fairly good fighter. Thanks to its sleek design and swept-wings, the F-86F-30 can reach speeds in excess of 1,100 km/h (683 mph). However, the J47 engine has relatively low thrust output, and it takes time to reach significant speeds.

The North American F-86 Sabre was one of the greatest fighter aircraft of all time. It entered service with the USAAF in 1949 and although not as fast and maneuverable as the MiG 15 , it was instrumental in denying air superiority to the Chinese during the Korean War.

Considered one of the best and most important fighter aircraft in the Korean War, the F-86 accounted for a final ratio of 10-to-1. All 39 United Nations jet aces won their laurels in Sabres.

The North American F-86 was the first swept-wing airplane in the U.S. fighter inventory. Four models of the craft (F-86A, E, F and H) were day fighters or fighter bombers, while the F-86D, K and L versions were all-weather interceptors.

In 1959 a joint NAA/USAF project developed an experimental Sabre which became the highest-flying and fastest of all F-86s. As a test airframe NAA utilised F-86F-30 s/n 52-4608.
