Jul 7, 2016 · Between 1985-1987, Singapore retrofitted some F-5Es(A/C 836-841) and F-5Fs(860-862) with Shark noses and W6 LERX but without IFR probes. In 1989, 870-874 were converted as well. However, these upgrades weren't applied fleet-wide, as the new upgraded F-5S/Ts were introduced in early 1996.

Sep 20, 2024 · The F-5E proved to be a successful combat aircraft for U.S. allies, but had no combat service with the U.S. Air Force (though the F-5A with modifications referred to as F-5C was flown by the U.S. in Vietnam). The F-5E evolved into the single-engine F-5G, which was rebranded the F-20 Tigershark. It lost out on export sales to the F-16 in the 1980s.

Sep 9, 2010 · That one is an original F-5E. Only the upgraded F-5S, RF-5S and F-5T have the refueling probe. Generally, you can distinguish them by looking at their paint scheme. F-5Es use a 3-tone "cloud" scheme while F-5S/Ts use a scheme similar to the F-4 Hill grey scheme. So no probe, small LERX and normal nose. Just build it OOB and you'll be fine. Mark.

Nov 14, 2023 · Looking closely, it does have the LERX's on it, the earlier wing's forward-most point where it joins the side of the air intake is further back. But it doesnt have the newer nose on it. This aircraft is 75-0609, and ended up in Yemen, where the remaining Tigers are now owned by the Iran backed Houthi rebels.
