A boxcar is the North American and South Australian Railways term for a railroad car that is enclosed and generally used to carry freight. The boxcar, while not the simplest freight car design, is considered one of the most versatile since it can carry most loads.

PC class X38f 50' double-door boxcar residing with camp cars by the ex-NYC station in Ashtabula, Ohio. As of January 2002, this car is still there, although it has been moved into CSXT's West Avenue Yard, about a half-mile away.

Conrail inherited 50' boxcars from nearly every predecessor road. So many, in fact, that hundreds went into storage within several years of Conrail's creation.

Its hard to find an ex-RI/Rock boxcars in decent shape, this one still looks good in 1994! Found on Conrail. The Warren & Ouchita Valley (W&OV) was a shortline and a Rock subsidary in Arkansas. They had roster boxcars W&OV 1-100. They closed down in 1979 before the Rock shutdown. Boxcars like these were built by Pullman Standard for the RI.

UP 907149 is an all-steel express boxcar designed for shipment of time-sensitive and high-priority freight over the UP system. It is fitted with special trucks for high-speed operation with passenger trains or express freight trains.

Oct 21, 2020 · Here we see a trio of men working on making repairs to Pennsylvania Railroad 54087, a class XH boxcar about 36' long that would have been built around 1898-1900. The Pennsy rostered more than 7,000 of this specific type along at the time of WWI.
