The Evenki, [a] also known as the Evenks and formerly as the Tungus, are a Tungusic people of North Asia. In Russia, the Evenki are recognised as one of the Indigenous peoples of the Russian North, with a population of 38,396 (2010 census).

Evenki (/ eɪ ˈ v ɛ ŋ k i / ay-VEN-kee), [a] formerly known as Tungus, [b] is the largest member of the northern group of Tungusic languages, a group which also includes Even, Negidal, and the more closely related Oroqen language. The name is sometimes wrongly given as "Evenks". It is spoken by the Evenki or Ewenkī(s) in Russia and China.

Evenki is a Northern Tungusic language spoken mainly in northern China, and also in Russia and Mongolia. In China Evenki was spoken by about 11,000 in 2007 in Inner Mongolia, Heilongjiang province and Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

While no monolingual Evenki-speakers remain, many Evenks speak Yakut and Buryat alongside Russian. Only 12.7% retain the Evenk language, with higher rates in the Amur region and Evenk district. In response, Evenks are working to preserve their culture through folklore ensembles and festivals like the Ayukta Evenk Folklore Festival.
