They "join" allies (can't call anyone into the war) and the war "keeps going" (you don't even get the stability penalty for being at war). So now you occupy the regions not own them (ethiopia is the original controler, you're just occupying it).

Sep 29, 2022 · I have colonial police. resistance average is 70 and compliance average is 40. I need 60. However, I electrified ethiopia already. Compliance doesn't grow due to the colonial police modifier but resistance also doesn't grow, so if I switch I will prob face a revolt.

Combined with void singers, 30% cheaper apostles/missionaries, mosques, upgraded religious governor, and hagia sofia, then you've got an essentially unbeatable religion.
