On 15 January 2025, the European Commission published Delegated Regulation (EU) 2025/19 in the Official Journal of the EU with regard to the update of the ESEF basic taxonomy carried out in 2024. This regulation amends the previous version of Regulation (EU) 2022/2553 of 21 September 2022.
ESEF (European Single Electronic Format) is the new single electronic reporting format for the preparation of annual financial reports to be published by listed companies in the European Union from 2021 onwards.

Jan 9, 2025 · The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA), the EU’s financial markets regulator and supervisor, has published the 2024 European Single Electronic Format (ESEF) XBRL taxonomy files and an update to the ESEF Conformance Suite to facilitate the implementation of the ESEF Regulation on 8th January, 2025.
In 2023, ESMA decided to postpone to 2024 the amendment of the ESEF RTS to reflect the limited changes of the 2023 update of the IFRS taxonomy and focus on monitoring the implementation of the ESEF requirements and how to improve the electronic reporting process.
ESEF is a technical format designed to make existing information available in both human-readable (XHTML) and machine-readable (XBRL) forms.
