The Enon Mound was the center of a large dirt race track during the early 1900’s. Here, not far from the dust of a dead civilization, thoroughbreds raced and won governor’s cups at state fairs. Evidence of the race track still exists on lot #7 on Meadow Lane.

Dec 19, 2016 · This Adena Mound is the second largest conical mound in Ohio. These large conical mounds are believed to be Adena while the many small or effigy mounds are Hopewell, a later culture. This mound is the property of the Village of Enon.

Jun 8, 2021 · First settlers in the area were the Adena Native Americans, known for their mounds like the one in Enon, Ohio. Adena, Hopewell, and Fort Ancient cultures developed earthworks, circa 52 BC to 1500 AD. (A historical marker located in Enon in Clark County, Ohio.)

In Enon there is a Native American burial site known as the Adena Mound, one of many such sites in the general region. It is very close to where Joseph had those depressing feelings. The community of Enon, has identified and preserved the site.

The Adena mound, the type site for the Adena culture of prehistoric mound builders, is a registered historic structure, on the grounds of the Adena Mansion for which it is named, near Chillicothe, Ohio.
