Feb 9, 2002 · Here is a less attractive alternative when using an El Camino as a tow vehicle: flat tow instead of trailer tow (its the way I remember El Caminos being used as tow rigs for little guy drag racers way back when). Two things happen when you flat tow: 1) you eliminate the trailer weight (many car haulers weigh easily in the 2,000 lb range).

I is an open bed load bearing vehicle. 1970 and other El Caminos, ( not sure of the years ) have a different power steering box than Chevelles. ( The wheels will still turn when loaded to capacity ) NO WHERE on a 1970 El Camino does it say Chevelle. In the grill it says CHEVROLET.

Mar 29, 2006 · The vehicle is a 70 El Camino SS 396 with a Q-jet carb. The timing was set to 8 degrees before TDC with the vacuum hose to the advance disconnected and blocked. The dwell was set to 30 while the vacuum advance was disconnected.

Aug 24, 2020 · 1968 was the first year for an SS El Camino. Exactly 5190 1968 SS El Caminos were built. 1968 and 1978-1987 were the only years that the El Camino SS was a separate model. From 1969-1977, the El Camino SS was a Custom model, with an SS option package. The 1969-1971 SS El Caminos can be especially difficult to authenticate.

May 20, 2008 · It would seem to me that the El Camino really has three fundamental handicaps as a towing vehicle: A) the long overhang of car behind the back wheels (a load equalizing hitch is required much sooner). B) the converging 4 link rear suspension allows more side to side axle movement (can anybody say "panhard bar"?).
