Ekbatan Town (Persian: شهرک اکباتان, Šahrak-e Ekbātān) is a planned town in western Tehran, Iran. It is located approximately five kilometers west of central Tehran. The town is named after Ecbatana, the capital city of the ancient Median Empire around 700 BC.

Ecbatana[a] (/ ɛkˈbætənə /) was an ancient city, the capital of the Median kingdom, and the first capital in Iranian history. It later became the summer capital of the Achaemenid and Parthian empires. [2] . It was also an important city during the Seleucid and Sasanian empires.
