Southern fried chicken - egg wash before or after flour coating?
Aug 18, 2009 · I’m agnostic on the subject of the egg wash - I’ve cooked good chicken both ways. But true Southern-style chicken is just that - the chicken, cut up and fried. And leaving the skin on is generally considered to add a considerable amount of flavor, especially to those parts that need it, like the breasts.
Uses of an Egg Wash - Cafe Society - Straight Dope
Nov 25, 2007 · An egg wash would help with that, but not the browning. And unless the hash browns are pressed in the pan pretty well, it might be a bit of a challenge to apply the egg wash. I’ve become a complete convert, BTW, to Land O Lakes fat-free half-and-half (an oxymoron if there ever was one). It has more body than 2% milk.
Should you wash pots used for boiling eggs? - Straight Dope
Oct 19, 2005 · I don’t wash pots after boiling eggs or pasta. I just wipe them down with a wet paper towel (actually, that is just for the pasta since it occasionally sticks to the bottom, I don’t do anything to the egg pan unless one cracked). Everyone is way too germophobic these days. I guarantee you that the amount of fecal residue on a store-bought egg is less than the fecal matter you get in a Big Mac.
Do you own a breakfast sandwich maker? Do you use it?
Jul 3, 2024 · The Hamilton Beach breakfast sandwich maker does one thing really well. Make a egg McMuffin. I save over $5 (including tax) everytime I make one at home. Buy the sliced Canadian bacon and English muffins, eggs and American cheese. Add a muffin half, cheese, C bacon, crack a egg and top with the muffin half. It cooks in about 2 mins. Other sandwiches can be made. But the gadget is really ...
Driveway and road maintenance and Martha Stewart,
Sep 2, 2024 · Martha Stewart owns Edsel Ford’s old estate called Skylands. The long winding driveway is paved with crushed pink granite she selected. But the gravel would get dispersed during snow removal. So every fall the workers remove the gravel and stockpile it. Every spring they wash it and put it back in place. I love...
How does an egg remove a bruise? - Straight Dope
Feb 19, 2006 · -I found the best way doing it is to use a hard sterling silver bracelet. Pierce the egg with one end of the bracelet and move the egg to the centre, so you can grab the bracelet instead of holding the hot egg in your hand. A bigger mass of silver would also transfer the bruises even faster. Sterling silver oxidizes due to heat and moisture.
What did you use for inside trash before plastic trash bags?
Mar 19, 2023 · Random thought. We used to use large paper grocery bags and milk cartons for wet items. Plastic produce bags weren’t common, so not sure what we used if we didn’t have a milk carton handy. Maybe wrapped wet items in newspaper? It was a meme in the comics when someone nicely wraps and ties their vegetable peelings and egg shells in newspaper or butcher paper and someone steals it. TMI, I ...
What city has the best "restaurant community"? - Straight Dope
Jan 24, 2025 · On the radio I heard them talking about Chicago’s upcoming restaurant week, and one person said “Chicago’s restaurant community” was “second to none.” I rarely eat out, and when I do, not at pricey/hip eateries, but my impression is that such a statement was unabashed and unwarranted local boosterism. So, those of you who follow such things, what one US and non-US city would you ...
Snorting Listerine: Bad Idea? - Factual Questions - Straight Dope
Nov 26, 2005 · I’ve long been a fan of using Listerine as an oral antiseptic: instead of flossing, I shoosh the stuff between my teeth in the morning, and have not had a tooth/gum infection since I started doing this (and I used to get them all the time). Then I took to using Listerine at the first sign of a cold. One day I figured: the next time I get that …
What is the "old clothing" smell? - Straight Dope
Feb 2, 2025 · Some call it the “thrift store smell”. It is frequently discussed on the Internets but they all say it is old sweat, dirt, etc. But it is not just vintage clothing that develops it. Any cotton cloth that has been stored for a month or two seems to get it. I have several sets of cotton flannel sheets and change and wash them often. The other day I …
