I've got a first gen bottom of the line eee (2G Surf). I've got a current version of Debian on it (no GUI). Planning to use it as more or less a KVM. It's got an ethernet port! I also have an older EEE PC and I went ahead and converted it to a Linux system for a friend who just needed internet and e-mail. He's had no problems with it at all.
