Aug 20, 2015 · The bottom two bullet points are still on my "too-read-about" list, but, being unfamiliar with Indonesian history and having never even heard of Suharto, I decided to do some research on him and his regime. Apparently in 1975, Suharto invaded East Timor and occupied the country until 1999, killing 100,000 people all in all.

The only place I've seen it in British media has been Ross Kemp on Gangs; he interviewed a gang member in Timor Leste about seeing the massacre of hundreds of civilians in a cemetery. Thinking he must've been far too young to remember it, I looked up its date, and was unpleasantly surprised.
