I find desktop icons I've assigned turn into "globe" icons for no apparent reason. What causes this and can I keep it from happening?

Open Google Earth. In the left panel under "My Places," right-click the placemark you want to change. Then, click Properties (Windows, Linux) or Get Info (Mac). To the right of the "Name" field, click the placemarks button. Choose a new icon.

Jul 28, 2010 · That is expected, however, after a short while or even a day or two, the icon changes to this "blue and green globe" or an "earth-like" icon of the same color or nature. In laymans terms, how can this be corrected, getting rid of the blue and green globe icon, without having to personally go altering any files within the OS of my computer.

To change your placemark color, click the Paint bucket and select a color. To change your placemark icon, select an icon. Or, for more options, click More See more icons and make your choice from the icon gallery. To create a custom placemark icon, click More Upload custom icon Icons you upload must be in .jpg or .png file format.

computer was restored (restore system to factory default) now some left side icons are gone ( google earth, google chrome) i would like to restore them.
