Dota is a series of strategy video games. The series began in 2003 with the release of Defense of the Ancients (DotA), a fan-developed multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) custom map for the video game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and its expansion, The Frozen Throne.

These ancient DotA maps led to DotA becoming one of the most popular maps on Battle.net and created very good conditions for DotA Allstars to flourish on its release.

December 27th - Defense of the Ancients Beta 2 is released by Eul. The very first DotA map. July 1st - Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne is released. Unknown date - The second installment of DotA, Thirst for Gamma, is released by Eul. It never gains popularity.

The first version of Dota appeared in 2003, when a user nicknamed Eul created a map inspired by the popular StarCraft modification Aeon of Strife. The goal of the game was simple: two teams of heroes fought to destroy the enemy base, protected by towers and creeps.

a) Summoner's Rift (5v5) - It's the oldest and most commonly used map. Three lanes to fight your way to the enemy base with three turrets in each, in addition to the two turrets guarding the Nexus. Each side of the map has an area known as the jungle where players can kill neutral monsters for gold and experience.

One of the maps of this era, and our first stop in the history of Dota, isAeon of Strife. Aeon was a fantastically odd map for Starcraft vets: you controlled only one powerful unit hero, fighting amidst ai-controlled enemies in three lanes.
