ESPN2 was launched on October 1, 1993. Its original aim was to be a more informal, youth-oriented channel than its parent network, with a greater emphasis on programming aimed at that demographic, such as the X Games. This theme was also reflected in its overall presentation, which featured a graffiti-esque logo and on-air graphics.
